Happy new bra!

by Juliet on January 5, 2010

Friends, locals, countrymen, lend me – well, actually give me – your bras.

Thank you to the Wembley and Kingsbury Times for mentioning Park Life’s help with this campaign in an article.

Bras for AfricaNot the most obvious first-ever post to a Blog aimed at enhancing the life of those who live in my neighbourhood and a somewhat peculiar (borderline pervy) request – but we’d love you to donate any brassieres to help the girls at the Sustainability Institute* in South Africa (the ecovillage funded by Kensal Rise’s local cinema, the Lexi). There are lots of teenagers there desperate for this support (in every sense), and they’ll welcome your secondhand (but in good nick) bras.

HOW TO DONATE: Please pop any suitable items in an envelope (or refuse sack, depending on your generosity/endowment) and take them to the Lexi Cinema at at1 94b Chamberlayne Road, NW10. Maybe label your generous donation something vaguely explanatory such as ‘Bras for Africa’ so whoever receives it doesn’t just think you’re a bit mental.

Not only will this kind act lighten your underwear drawer of items you never use any more, but it will be immensely appreciated by those not fortunate enough to even afford underwear.

*The Sustainability Institute at the Lynedoch EcoVillage in South Africa combines equity with ecology, and is home to a crèche and primary school for 450 local farm worker children, organic farming, indigenous gardens and houses for this unique mixed-income community.

Thanks for this intriguing posting juliet. I burnt all my bras in the mid-late 70s, along with plenty of other women, though i was only a 9 (or so..) year-old boy. So, regrettably, i cannot help. But my wife may… and i will consult her. Good luck with Park Life. Onwards and upwards x

Will get onto this Juliet… well done! I live with 3 girls so i’ll ask them if they’ve got any to give too (or simply steal them from the washing line).

Excited to see this launched, and look forward to future posts… xx

Good idea, Juliet – it always seems wrong to put a bra in the bin. So, if your cups runneth over… pass it on. Hope you get a good response.

I saw a few old bras in the wheelie bin out the back of Maggies pub this morning. I’ll pop in and tell them where those should be going. Nice work Juliet.

Surely “lend me your brassieres”.
Good luck with the blog, I have a feeling it is going to be massive.
