Chatting with Jessica Hynes

by Tasha on March 29, 2011

Nowadays Queens Park seems to be giving Hollywood a run for its money with the amount of talent we have knocking around our streets. We caught up with British actress and writer – but above all local resident Jessica Hynes to get her top tips.

What do you love about your neighbourhood?

I love the green space in the cemetery on Willesden Lane and the neighbours!

Any pet peeves about the local area?

Pet peeve is that we don’t have African drumming/dancing in the bandstand every Sunday.

Any juicy local gossip?

A bit of Blue Peter was filmed in Queens Park!

What would be your fantasy dinner party comprised of ingredients you’ve bought locally?

I would buy the whole meal from Spicy Basil on Kilburn High Road and pretend I’d made it myself.

How would you spend the perfect weekend in your locale?

Playing a massive, all age, two day game of rounders in the park..to the bitter end.

If you were made MP tomorrow what would you add or change?

I would introduce on-spot fines for dog owners who did not clean up their dogs s***, and enforce it.

Any local charities you support and why?

None locally, only the national charity Action For Children.

What’s your favourite restaurant pub/restaurant/café/retailers in Kensal Rise and why?

The Diner – it’s kid friendly with great menu – what’s not to love?

Three tips for someone who’s just moved here…

Go for a drink outside The Salusbury -–you will meet the nicest people. Use the local green grocers NOT the supermarkets: I have had IOUs in almost all the shops when I’ve left my purse at home, your loyalty equals their trust – priceless in a big city. Queens Park Books is a brilliant shop, what they don’t have they will order (for an online shopping phobic, very useful).

Jessica is starring in new BBC4 mockumentary ‘Twenty Twelve‘ about a hopeless PR team organising the London Olympics, watch this to find out more, or catch it on BBC iPlayer now!
