Reflexology in your living room

Local reflexologist Sophie Robinson offers relaxing reflexology treatments in the comfort of your home

There is barely an ailment that reflexology doesn’t offer relief from, whether it’s stress, poor circulation, pain, insomnia – you name it. As the recent surge in popularity of this complementary therapy attests, reflexology can be beneficial for everyone. And for even the most skeptical among us, there’s no denying that having your feet rubbed is one of the most relaxing sensations there is.

A masseuse for 10 years and a reflexologist for seven, Sophie left her job in PR after her father convinced her she had healing hands. Sophie’s been using them ever since.

At the start of a session, Sophie asks if there are any particular problems you want to treat. She then tailors her treatment to focus on those areas by applying pressure to certain points that send signals to the rest of the body. She works to treat all kinds of problems and symptoms – insomnia, stress, anxiety, pain, irritable bowel syndrome.

Sophie indicates a point on my big toe which corresponds to the pineal gland in the brain, which produces melatonin, the chemical that helps us sleep. Reflexology is particularly good for helping with sleep difficulties, she explains.

Also there is the point that corresponds to the pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain. Pressure on this point helps the body release oxytocin – the chemical that induces pregnancy. Many of Sophie’s clients are pregnant women – she claims to have a 99% success rate for bringing on labour.

There was no doubt that after a session with Sophie, I was left feeling relaxed, calm and I slept like a baby, even if I didn’t have any new urges to have one.

Ring Sophie on 07951 066915 to book a session during the day Monday to Wednesday and or in the evening. One-hour sessions, £40.
